One of the big surprises of the Surf City El Salvador ISA World Junior Surfing Championship was 11-year-old Frenchwoman Tya Zebrowski, who took home the bronze medal.
It was independent, or rather, it was enough: If it had been placed in the top 20 it would have been a huge surprise enough.
Tya has quite the genetic makeup: She is the daughter of a former Olympian, snowboarder Gary Zebrowski, and a respected yoga teacher. The combination of family skills seems to have been key to her defeating some of the world's best in El Salvador.
