Rio de Janeiro big wave event given the green light
Juanchi Arca, Cristian Merello, Chacha Ibarra, Diego Medina and Alvaro Malpartida are on alert
The organization of the Itacoatiara Big Wave championship gave the green light yesterday for the tournament to take place this Friday, September 6. Confirmation of the tournament should be made in the next few hours.
The social media post stated: “Despite the existing uncertainties, according to the evaluation of the Waves website, the combination of a strong south-southwest swell and favorable winds on the morning of the 6th, enhances the conditions for the event. Vertical and tubular bombs are expected to the delight of the public and a select team of big wave surfers.”
Chileans Chacha Ibarra, Cristian Merello and Diego Medina, along with Argentine Juanchi Arca and Peruvian Álvaro Malpartida are invited to the tournament.
