Rio de Janeiro big wave event gets green light

Chileans Diego Medina and Chacha Ibarra confirmed their presence tomorrow in Itacoatiara; three-meter solid tubular bombs are expected

The organizers of the Itacoatiara Big Wave challenge have given the green light to hold the event tomorrow, Friday, September 6, a day when tubular waves are expected on the heavy Rio beach break.

"The latest forecast shows that the swell has gained size and power for the early hours of the morning, with solid sets of between 2,5 and 3 meters expected that promise a nice spectacle," they wrote in the tournament's account.

Of the five Hispanic-American guests, two confirmed their presence and are already traveling: Diego Medina and Reinaldo “Chacha” Ibarra. It is not known whether Álvaro Malpartida (who is in Indonesia), Juanchi Arca (who is in Puerto Rico) and Cristian Merello, who is presumed to be in Pichilemu, will be there.

The call was made for tomorrow at 7:00.
