The heaviest of this week's swell in Namibia, from deep in the water with Koa Smith and Benji Brand
"I'm so grateful to Skeleton Bay, it shows me a level of feeling that's hard to achieve anywhere else," says the Hawaiian.
For two of the heaviest big riders on the planet, Koa Smith and Nathan Florence, to be saying that this Skeleton swell is heavy, it's because it's not heavy in the way normal human beings understand it, or even the good surfer at your local spot... It means it's mega ultra super heavy.
For Hawaiians to say it was 10 to 15 feet, it's because, what? It was 20 to 25 for normal humans?
"I'm so grateful for Skeleton Bay, it shows me a level of feeling that's hard to achieve anywhere else," Koa said in the video. It makes clear what this wave means to the world of surfing.
He broke what they called a "second reef", much further back from the normal lineup. Nathan Florence almost went for one of those but didn't. For him to back off is because he's really heavy.
In short, this is not one of the best swell videos but rather a historical record in surfing in general.
