One of the best swells of the year broke in Puerto Escondido over the weekend and on the first day of this week, in the midst of the Covid 19 pandemic, with surfing banned in Mexico, there were more than one who, in addition to escaping death, escaped from the authorities who pursued them.

According to various social networks, the hit of the day was taken by the local José Ramirez Rito, a lefty worthy of the Mexican Pipeline on a solid day. So much so that the local wrote on his IG: Thank God for this first swell of the year. Phew! The vibe was felt, congratulations to the whole band that pulled out all the stops."

One of those who surfed the swell, Alberto Orozco, wrote on his social networks: "What a day of illegal waves yesterday! There was action in and out of the water too, by the cops."

In La Punta there was a separate show with perfect lefts breaking and the police chasing several surfers. The young local, Maya Larripa wrote: "Magic cotton candy at home" along with a photo of the epic left breaking.

Authorities tried to persuade surfers, some complied and others did not. So far, no arrests, fines or board confiscations have been reported.

Below are some samples of the waves that broke.
