The International Surfing Association has released a list of 41 surfers from 18 countries who won the $20.000 that the organization allocates for the annual scholarship it awards.

Among them are surfers from Chile, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Peru and Venezuela.

“Scholarship recipients are selected based on financial need as well as their dedication to education and surfing. The geographic spread and diversity of recipients also highlights the ISA’s mission to expand surfing into new regions and engage new participants and fans,” the statement said.

The fund was launched in 2007 and has already awarded more than USD $368,500 to more than 350 surfers.

“It is always a special moment when the ISA awards our annual scholarships to these amazing young surfers. Our mission is to inspire young people and help them on their journey of surfing education and adventure. These surfers are the future of our sport and will take it forward to reach new heights. I am delighted that the ISA is able to provide this support to them and wish them every success. I am proud to have been able to contribute to the development of youth surfing careers in virtually every part of the world since 2007. There is no doubt that the ISA Scholarship Program has had a significant impact on people from underserved and disadvantaged communities,” said ISA President Fernando Aguerre.
