The little big secret that Slater revealed in his WSL Mic'd Up
The first wave in his pool was not what was said to be
Kelly Slater fell on her first wave in her wave pool, on that cold morning of December 5, 2015, when she debuted her wave.
At the end of the WSL's Mic'd Up show, which premiered yesterday, Slater cheekily confesses to his friend Charlie Goldsmith: “A little secret, no one has seen the first wave, not even me. I fell off one,” and then has a good laugh.
In the official video of that day, the caption says "the first wave surfed." All the videos of that day and even in different publications and statements to the press said that the wave in which he combined several tubes with maneuvers was understood to be the first. It seems that Slater wanted to correct what had been said about the wave and humanize himself a little.
Many people who surf at the ranch get the better of their nerves and fall on their first wave.
The WSL special follows Kelly through the Freshwater Pro, featuring some interesting conversations from the all-time great with his tour companions, Goldsmith himself and his girlfriend Kalani Miller.
