The Puerto Cup extended its waiting period
Without significant storm surges during the month of June and with an encouraging forecast, we can wait until July 31
The Puerto Escondido Cup, a big wave event taking place in Zicatela, Puerto Escondido, has extended its wave waiting period until July 31, organizers announced on social media.
The final date for the event was today, June 30, but they decided to extend the wait until the end of July.
“We are officially extending the waiting period until July 31,” the statement said. It added: “With a lot of activity in the South Pacific forecast for the next few weeks coming with the potential for big wave competition, we will first announce a yellow light to alert competitors and the community to prepare so we can get accurate models on ideal swell and wind charts. The green alert will only be given 72 hours in advance, so stay tuned.”
The forecast for Tuesday calls for waves of up to 12 feet, and for mid-month something bigger is expected to arrive, with up to 15 feet.
