The problem is with the surfers, not the wave pool
It's hard to understand why they insist on doing the same moves and surfing the wave the same way all the time; it's time to see something different.
Once again, the event in the pool sparked controversy on social media, as it is often said that it is boring because it is predictable, that the same thing always happens. And this is partly true, it is because the same thing almost always happens because almost all surfers do the same thing over and over again.
The canvas is perfect for doing what you want, but for some reason almost everyone decides to surf the wave anyway.
Maneuver, maneuver, tube, maneuver, maneuver, tube and a pitiful attempt at the last section.
Precisely, those who decided to surf a little differently, like Medina and Toledo, just like last year, were the ones who obtained the best results.
That is, the judges are also asking for risks.
How can it be that the rest of the best in the world don't see this and continue to insist on doing the same maneuvers over and over again?
Why doesn't anyone speed up and do a single impressive maneuver? Do we know what the judges would make of that? It seems like they want to pay him well, in the end that would be pushing the boundaries of the sport.
When people first started talking about wave pools, they imagined a future with incredible maneuvers because they offered what the ocean couldn't: the possibility of repeating the maneuver 800 times... Like in skateboarding, a discipline that was born from surfing but because of that quality it evolved much more in its turns and possibilities; the surface is always the same.
It is amazing that over time, wave pool surfing has not evolved in a more revolutionary direction, in fact, this is the case in the ocean itself…
There is only one aspect that encourages conservative surfing, which is that with four waves you can be out and that forces you to be sure. But it does not seem to be a sufficient excuse for the best in the world on a wave of incredible quality not to be able to put on, with a few exceptions, a slightly exciting show.
With the finals about to start, it would be interesting to see how things evolve.
