The problem yesterday was the table
Slater acknowledged that the choice was not the right one, that it is a board that works well for him on lefts with more stopped sections.

Kelly Slater admitted that yesterday's board of choice for his debut at the Corona Open J-Bay was the board, he used a Slater Designs that works well on lefts with sections and not on the walls of J-Bay.
Asked after winning his heat against Barron Mamiya, Salter said: “The board I used yesterday, it’s a shame because it works well on lefts with sections which is what I’ve been surfing for the last two months (laughs) and not on big faces at JBay which are a bit more laid back. That didn’t work for me.”
He explained that today's choice is a board he has been using for years, he chose one a little bigger and said that although it is not perfect for the conditions, it allows him to make turns and tubes.
Among other things, he also explained that his arrival at JBay was not as planned, he laughed, commenting that he arrived a day before the tournament began.
After beating Barron Mamiya, with a good performance Kelly could not win in the round of 16 against Jack Robinson and said goodbye to the event.
