The quarter-finals were decided in the men's and women's Open categories at ALAS in Guatemala, which began today with very neat waves of half a meter to one meter and concluded with an adverse scenario, with few opportunities for the surfers and closing walls.

Precisely, at mid-morning, a tube show was performed by Mexican Sasha Donnanno, a local from Puerto Escondido who felt at home to add the best score of the championship: A 9 and a 6,83 to pass his round 1 series.

With the tide going out and the wind coming in, the conditions began to deteriorate and the key was to find the walls opening up. The judges paid well for the attacks on the critical sections of El Rosario beach.

Some of the surprises of round 2 in which the pre-seeded players lost were the defeat of Beto Muñoz at the hands of Ericson Ortiz, Maxi Sáenz at the hands of Ethan Hollander, Jason Torres at the hands of Noel de la Torre and Roberto Araki at the hands of Axel Castro.

Among the ladies, the three best performances were by Salvadoran Juliss Moody, Argentinean Luchy Cosoleto and Mexican Maya Larripa.

A very emotional farewell and tribute to Israel Barona and Rolando Rodriguez was held today in which dozens of surfers participated.

One of the greatest Ecuadorian surfers in history, Israel Barona, passed away in El Salvador a few days ago.
