Cody Young, Noe Mar McGonagle, Leandro Usuna, Lucca Mesinas, Bryan Pérez, Robson Santos, Anthony Fillingim and Francisco Bellorin made it to the quarterfinals of the main event of Pan American surfing and are now three steps away from the grand final.
The sea was small compared to what Punta Rocas is used to, in fact, according to what several competitors told DUKE, it was the smallest day of all the previous days.
With this and all the sea was better than in more than half of the surfing events in the world, with rights and lefts stretching out over the long bank of stones.
The pressure that this event brings to qualify for Tokyo 2020 was felt, as mentioned by Canadian Cody Young after beating the second best seed, Kevin Schulz.
The left was the protagonist in a wave that is mostly right-wing, and Noe Mar McGonagle used it to beat the local favourite, Alonso Correa.
Another surprise was given by Bryan Pérez from El Salvador who beat the best seed of the event, the current world champion Santiago Muñiz who was not in good shape with his surfing.
The best score of the day was achieved by the other local representative, Lucca Mesinas, who was electric to score 14,34 and beat the Uruguayan Lucas Madrid. Mesinas said that he did not doubt for a second about being on the team and missing the US Open, that he will only have an opportunity like this once in his life.

Here's how the main event quarter-final series turned out:
Cody Young vs Noe Mar McGonagle
Leandro Usuna vs Lucca Mesinas
Bryan Perez vs Robson Santos
Anthony Fillingim vs Francisco Bellorin
This is how the play-off was formed:
Kevin Schluz vs Alonso Correa
Jhony Corzo vs Lucas Madrid
Santiago Muniz vs Israel Barona
Ricardo Delgado vs Guillermo Satt
