The soap opera continues: Slater will not be in Keramas
According to the WSL it is due to a foot injury, but according to some Australian sites, she is going to surf the swell of the year in Fiji. The young Barron Mamiya came in her place.
Kelly Slater will not be competing in Keramas, as he and the WSL had previously announced. The best surfer in history now appears on the organization's website as "eliminated" from the event due to injury. On Fantasy Surfer, where he appeared as an option to be chosen in the third layer of surfers, the same is stated.
It is known that Slater's foot was better, in fact, he was able to compete in the Founders' Cup, but then not in the Oi Rio Pro, and he had been included in the Keramas series.
Although there is no official announcement from the WSL, the 11-time champion is not appearing in the series, where he was until yesterday. In fact, all the heats have changed and now, in his place is the young Hawaiian talent Barron Mamiya as a wildcard.

According to Australian site Swellnet, Kelly's photographer Todd Glasser was waiting for him to surf the swell of the year at Tavarua this morning, but Slater missed the flight.
The question remains whether Slater is now dealing with a foot injury or a lack of desire to compete.
Barron Mamiya, who has just performed an impressive backflip in the Texas pool, which Keramas already knows, is positioned as an interesting wildcard.

The men's series are now as follows:
S1: Italo Ferreira vs Joel Parkinson vs Keanu Asing
S2: Owen Wright vs. Ezekiel Lau vs. Michael February
S3: John John Florence vs. Michael Rodrigues vs. Miguel Pupo
