The number of registrants was exhausted and the quota had to be increased
The Surf Web Series, an event produced by Mexican producer Surf Open League, arrived in South Africa with a similar edition to the one held in Mexico last month, a similar format and a desire from surfers that met expectations; originally the event was intended for 32 surfers and today it was announced that 48 places have been opened.
Videos that can be submitted now will be posted from August 1 to 15 and will correspond to clips surfed in South Africa between March 1 and July 25, 2020.
According to a statement sent by South African Carig Jarvis, the country's heavyweights have already sent their waves: Shane Sykes, Koby Oberholzer, Simo Mkize, Scott Venter, Mitch Du Preez, Gavin Roberts, Karl Steen Luke Thompson, Nate Plomaritis and Zoé Steyn.
To register, send your first wave to Craig Jarvis at info@craigjarvis.co.za.
The South African release announces that the Surf Web Series tour will soon continue through Japan.
The man in charge of it all, Mexican and Brazilian Gustavo Duccini told DUKE: “I’m very happy to not only have the South Africa stop soon, but we already have the Japan stage confirmed for early September and from there we can already announce that we continue with Australia at the end of September and a grand world final with surfers formed by a ranking among at least eight international stages is also confirmed, including Mexico, already held, South Africa, Japan and Australia with another four stages that we will be confirming soon.”
The South African tournament will award $600 to the winner, $300 to second place, and $600 to the best tube courtesy of Red Bull.
