Tube of the month: Tomás Mekis, long, deep and completely glass at Punta de Lobos
A historic moment in one of the most historic waves in America
"I thought the memory would just stay in my head, but this came along so I wouldn't forget it," Tomás Mekis wrote about this wave.
He thought no one had filmed him, but @norea_del_corte_ and @davidnagaminisurf were there watching a very special moment in Punta de Lobos that has been on fire these days.
Tomás initially took the plunge extremely far back, well past the noses, so much so that the bottom and the entry into the barrel are almost fully visible. When he does the bottom, he encounters a three-to-four overhead wall, and he gets caught in the train that keeps rolling, and he rolls for a few seconds.
This wave goes down in the annals of Punta de Lobos history for what has been described and also for the state of the sea: Super glassy, orderly, not many people in the water.
