Tube of the month - Feli Antonena in Puerto: “Without a doubt, the wave of my life”

He waited three to four hours for this bomb, and when it came, he did not hesitate to row it; “I had never felt like this, a mixture of incredible emotions, between joy, relief and pure ecstasy,” he said.

Argentine Feli Antonena went to Puerto Escondido with a good attitude and that attitude put him in one of the best waves so far this winter in Puerto Escondido.

He entered the sea at night, did not want to look too much at the beasts of waves that were breaking and ended up waiting about three to four hours until he surfed the best wave of his life.

This is what he himself tells DUKE: “I entered at night through Marineros, without looking too much at the sea, it looked quite mutated but not huge, maybe 10 to 15 feet. First I looked to the right for a while but the current took me to the Far Bar which threw some bombs.

I took that as a sign and stayed there looking for the left. On good days I try to do what the sea asks of me here, not force anything and wait for my moment.

I was floating for three to four hours or so, just sitting there waiting for my wave and that's where the set started. Greg was closer than me, so he started paddling the first one, and when I saw that I went all in for the second one. I turned around and paddled hard.

The drop was long and felt incredible. When I got into the bottom I could see the lip falling slowly and it just missed my head. I got in and the view was a dream, a very wide tube and the exit was far away, but the board did its job, it siphoned, I was half blind, and when it cleared up I was coming out.

I had never felt like this, a mix of incredible emotions, between joy, relief and pure ecstasy. Without a doubt the wave of my life, I put in many hours here, many broken boards and all my heart. Zicatela demands that and much more. I am grateful for life to this wave and to the locals and the band that motivates me.”
