The wait continues in Punta de Lobos: The event is no longer on yellow alert and conditions are being monitored again

The “forecast, with such uncertain characteristics, could be strengthened and give us an incredible day of surfing or, on the other hand, diminish and end up being a day of mediocre conditions,” explained the organization.

The Lobos por siempre, which was placed on yellow alert yesterday for a possible event on Thursday, July 7, was once again put on hold due to storm surges after a detailed analysis by the steering committee.

The waves will be coming in but a storm close to the coast could ruin the conditions, which is what led to the decision not to hold the event on that date.

“After detailed analysis and the conclusion that the conditions could be very good, but they would not be so big or perfect, because the storm we are looking at is forming very close to the coast and just a few hours before the possible day of the event. This forecast, with such uncertain characteristics, could be enhanced and give us an incredible day of surfing or, on the other hand, diminish and end up being a day of mediocre conditions,” explains the letter signed by the director of the competition committee, Matías López.

“For these reasons, and especially considering the effort of the various surfers and producers who travel from all over the world to get to Punta de Lobos that day, we decided to continue waiting for the big flood in which we want to meet and celebrate in majestic and unforgettable conditions,” he added.

“There is activity in the Pacific, we are in the middle of storm surge season and we are confident that the big day is coming,” he concluded.

The event will feature 24 of the world's best big wave surfers using an Eddie format, with heats of six people going into the water twice and adding up the four best waves surfed in the two heats, regardless of whether they are in one or the other.
