The waves have finally arrived at Playa Grande in Mar del Plata and the Rip Curl Pro Argentina, QS 1500 and 1000 has begun, which will crown a new champion on Sunday.

The swell left neat and consistent conditions between half a meter and one meter that were the setting for the 24 heats that closed round 1 for ladies and gentlemen.

The best performance of the day was by Samuel Pupo, who flew and carved to receive 14,25 (8,5 + 5,25) and beat Luciano Bruhler (who scored 13,5, the third best score) and Joao Jucoski.

Mateus Navarro, another Brazilian, looked very comfortable on the waves of Biología and was the second best surfer of the day, scoring 13,55 to leave Mariano Arreyes in second, Pedro Dib in third and Eric Bahía in fourth.

The Hispanic American contingent had a good performance, seeing the two locals who have had the best results here, Lele Usuna and Facundo Arreyes, winning their series, also seeing the three Peruvians present also advancing (Gurrero, Tudela and Mesinas), the Chilean Guga Dvorquez doing the same and the Argentines Jeronimo Ané, Andy Mondo and Marcelo Rodríguez also making it to round 2.

Among the ladies, the show was stolen by Brazilian Camila Cassia who surfed very well on the backside to score 13,50. She was followed by her compatriot Tainá Hinckel and Ecuadorian Mimi Barona (who scored 12,75).

Among the locals, the best was Lucía Indurain, who took a while to find a good one, but when she did, she scored 7,5 and won the series with a score of 12,25. Ornella Pellizzari, Lucía Cosoletto and Josefina Ané also advanced.

Chileans Jessica Anderson and Lorena Fica and Peru's Daniella Rosas also advanced.

The tournament continues tomorrow with the prospect of good waves continuing to break in Mar del Plata and preparing for a Sunday of finals.
