The Uruguay Winter Wave 2026 has just been announced by its main sponsors, Granolate and O'Neill.
The event, which began last year, now takes advantage of the entire winter period and features five categories: Open Men, Open Women, Juniors, Tow-in or Step-offs, and a special award for the best aerial.
In total, more than US$4000 in prizes will be distributed.
Rodrigo Luzardo, director of Granolate and organizer of the event, told DUKE: “We are very happy to be holding The Winter Wave for the second year in a row. Since we created it last year, the idea has always been to make it an annual event. This time, with more time to spare, we are announcing it before winter even begins, since last year we decided to do it after it had already started… This year we are doing it with more advance notice.”
He added: “The idea behind this event has always been to contribute to the surfing community by generating buzz at a time when, paradoxically, there are no competitions but we have some of the best conditions of the year. So, what we're aiming for is to add value, engage the community, promote the sport, and do it through an event that's different—as different as we are. When Granolate creates its products, its brand, or seeks to build relationships or support events, we always try to give them our own unique and original touch.”
To participate, you must upload the video to Instagram and tag the sponsoring brands, Granolate and O'Neill.
