Of the nine-day waiting period for waves, the WSL Finals will choose one to take place. “The best”… In this case, that term is open to opinions from basically everyone in the surfing world.

What's happening? There will be plenty of waves, basically between the 9th and the 16th, first because of the arrival of the storm surge caused by Hurricane Jova and then because of the long swell it will leave behind.

What is the dilemma facing the WSL? On Saturday 9th the sea will start to rise, the 10th will be the biggest day with double overhead series and the wind can become a negative factor but there is confidence that it will remain offshore all day.

The problem is that then, between Wednesday and Friday, a swell of the kind that Lowers loves comes in, with a good period and good direction, a couple of feet overhead and a good wind forecast.

Surfline, the official service of the WSL, detailed:

Friday 8th: Small and fun. Probably not going to happen.

Saturday 9th: Growing from SSE Jova swell – overhead by PM. Possible to happen.

Sunday 10th: Overhead, swell from S de Jova continues: Possible to do so.

Monday and Tuesday 11-12: Swell falling. It will probably not happen.

Wednesday-Friday 13th-15th: Good size south-southwesterly. Days when it is possible to get some rain.

The Stab website has made a round of discussions between surfers, specialists and meteorologists, and opinions are divided: For Kolohe and Dino Andino, the Simmers and the communicator Michael Ciaramella, Saturday is the day.

For Fanning, photographer Jimmy Wilson and the WSL have their eye on Sunday, the biggest day.

For Craig Brokensha of Swellnet it is defined between Saturday and Sunday and for
Mark Sponsler of StormSurf will see the best of it on Thursday morning, with clean waves and a swell that will not be out of the question.
