There are talks to keep the longboard finals in El Salvador

"This is a place that suits longboarding well; it's such an iconic wave; it's consistent and we certainly want to come back here in the future, there's no doubt about that," said Graham Stepelberg.

The government of El Salvador and the WSL are in ongoing talks to keep the longboard finals in El Salvador and have not ruled out the possibility of the shortboard finals being held in the country, reported authority Graham Stapelberg at a press conference held yesterday.

“There are definitely ongoing discussions about the finals in this particular location and I think as many athletes pointed out this is a place that suits longboarding well; it’s such an iconic wave; it’s consistent and we certainly want to come back here in the future, there’s no doubt about that,” Stapelberg said when asked by DUKE if there are any discussions about the longboard finals as well as the shortboard finals, while at his side Minister Morena Valdéz nodded in agreement.

This is the first year that the finals are taking place in El Salvador and it is the second year in the history of longboarding, the first ones having taken place in Malibu, California.

The shortboard finals have been held at Lower Trestles for four consecutive years and will be held in Fiji next year.

If there is a chance of short-table finals here, it would be from 2026 onwards.
