There is a chance that the Mavericks Challenge will take place between the 19th and the 26th.

The North Pacific is showing signs of life and a significant swell could close the world tour. If it doesn't, Baker and Kennelly will be champions.

Big wave tour commissioner Mike Parsons issued a statement saying a storm is being monitored that will create a significant swell that could take out Mavericks between March 19 and March 26.

"It's still too far away to make a decision on whether or not this will happen, but we will continue to monitor conditions as the storm approaches," Parsons said in a statement posted on the WSL website.

The waiting period ends on March 31, which is the last day the tournament can be held. “We will keep our fingers crossed until then,” added the former CT member, coach and now commissioner.

The top men's and women's rankings are awaiting the results, as a new world champion will be determined.

Twiggy Baker of South Africa and Keala Kennelly of Hawaii lead their respective divisions.

For his part, the Basque Natxo González is in a comfortable fifth place to remain in the elite.
