Green light for big wave event in Brazil

On Monday, Praia do Cardoso will be pumping. Merello, Tapia, Nogales, Medina, Malpartida and Villarán are invited

This Monday, May 21, the Desafío or Mormaii Big Wave 2018 big wave championship will take place, the sponsoring brand announced on its website. According to predictions, the waves at Praia do Cardoso will be breaking at three and a half meters and with a period of 13 seconds.

The original guest list includes the names of Chileans Cristian Merello, Diego Medina and Rafael Tapia, Peruvians Álvaro Malpartida and Gabriel Villarán and Mexican Coco Nogales.

According to what could be seen on social media and at the various events that will take place this week, Cristian Merello is the only one from the aforementioned team who is already traveling to Brazil.

Álvaro Malpartida, Gabriel Villarán and Diego Medina are registered for the Iquique QS which begins on Monday. Rafael Tapia is in Los Angeles, about to travel to Indonesia and Coco Nogales was very relaxed driving his truck with recently changed tires at home 14 hours ago.

It remains to be seen how the organisation will replace the missing players. It is known that well-known names in Brazilian big wave surfing, such as Fabio Gouveia, Carlos Burle, Lucas Chumbo, Pedro Calado, among others, will be present.
