According to DUKE's calculations, Candelaria Resano and Bryan Pérez meet all the requirements and as the World Cup in Puerto Rico progresses, their chances increase.

There have been applications for the universality slot for Paris 2024, the ISA told DUKE, insisting that no decision has been made on whether one will be awarded or not.
To apply, a surfer must come from a country that participated in Tokyo 2020 with up to eight athletes in all sports and have placed in the top 50 at the ISA World Surfing Games in 2023 or 2024.
In addition, a committee created by the ISA, Paris 2024 and the International Olympic Committee must approve the application, although, as DUKE has learned, the ISA council has the most weight in this decision because it is the one that knows the most about surfing of the three.
According to DUKE's information from various sources, Candelaria Resano and Bryan Pérez are two of those applicants and on paper they are among the few who are seen as possible eligibles for the slot: They finished top 50 at the 2023 World Surfing Games, surfed Teahupoo and come from countries that participated in Tokyo 2020 with up to eight athletes.
If one looks at the list of surfers who finished in the top 50 in 2023, among men only Porfirio Miranda and Bryan Pérez would be eligible and among the women, only Candelaria Resano.
It is unknown whether Miranda applied for the universal slot.
Reviewing the list of competitors that are present in the ISA WSG of Puerto Rico, there are actually very few countries eligible for the universal slot: British Virgin Islands, Guam, American Samoa and so far none have made it into the top 50.
This leaves the two named athletes with great chances of being chosen for the universal slot.
If no surfers are chosen for the universal slot, because the parties do not consider that there is someone who meets all the requirements (it seems difficult) the world championship in Puerto Rico will give seven slots for men and nine for women.
