The QS shortboard tour will return to Puerto Rico after more than 10 years between October 30 and November 3, when La Marginal Pro takes place, a 3000-point event that will take place on the waves of El Rastreal, reported local Puerto Rican media Puerto Rico Posts and the WSL publishes on its website.

The last time Puerto Rico had held a shortboard QS was in Jobos in 2013, a tournament that was won by Cody Thompson of the United States and had Dylan Graves as the finalist.

“Once again, Arecibo is in the eyes of the world. This time, La Marginal Pro will be the event that will bring together 170 of the best surfing athletes in the world, 14 of them Puerto Ricans. Thanks to the success of the ISA World Surfing Games, which were held in an organized manner and without any reported incidents, Arecibo is once again the venue for a world-class event,” said the mayor of Arecibo, Carlos “Tito” Ramírez Irizarry, according to the aforementioned media outlet, Puerto Rico Posts.

The WSL website announces that the event will be a men's and women's QS 3000.

These will be important points for the North American qualification for the challenger series.

The El Rastreal spot is the same one used on most days to determine the world champions at the ISA World Surfing Games.
