There will be a Pan American Surfing Championship this year and it will be in Playa Venao, Panama

The test that will establish the seedings for the Santiago 2023 preliminary round is scheduled for August

The 2022 Pan American Surfing Championship will take place in August in Playa Venao, Panama, sources close to the organization of the tournament that brings together the nations of the Americas confirmed to DUKE.

The event will serve as a preview for the 2023 Pan American Surfing Games, which will qualify for surfing's second appearance in the second largest multi-sport event in the world, the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago.

All Pan American categories compete in the event: Shortboard, Longboard and SUP in both genders.

Playa Venao is one of the bastions of Panamanian and Central American surfing. It has hosted countless Latin and world events and will be hosting a Pan American event for the first time.

It is an extremely consistent beach break that receives waves from half a metre to three, with epic tubular days when the conditions are right.

The event is expected to be attended by all nations included in the Pan American Surfing Association, a member of Panamsports (formerly Odepa) which brings together 41 members and includes nations from continental America and the Caribbean islands.

The last edition of the Pan American surfing competition was held in Punta Roca and was dominated by Peru, which then qualified its entire team for Lima 2019 and won the majority of medals in the surfing event.
