The Brazilian Surfing Confederation has given the green light for the annual big wave championship held on Cardoso del Farol beach in Santa Marta, Santa Catarina, on Monday, July 1.

“After analyzing the forecast charts a lot, we decided to call the Green Light for Monday (07/01), because on Sunday, which is the peak of the waves, the wind is very strong and from the south/southwest quadrant, hitting onshore Cardoso beach, which can compromise the quality of the waves.

On Monday, the wind is weak and turns west towards the northern quadrant, acting as a landslide at the peak and improving wave formation,” said Thiago Jacaré, National Coordinator of Big Wave Surfing for CBS and the BWB movement.

This tournament has a waiting window from April to November and Monday was chosen as a special day to hold it.

The competition, the statement clarifies, will serve to secure a place in world-class tournaments.
