The ALAS Pro Tour will be in El Salvador from January 15 to 24 to carry out a selection process for 15 surfers who will be accompanied and empowered with all kinds of training so that they become the next leaders of local and regional surfing, the president of the organization, Karín Sierralta, informed DUKE.

With the support of former circuit champions Martín Passeri and Miguel Tudela and the circuit's founders, Karín Sierralta and Antonio Sotillo, 15 surfers will be selected to become Surf City ambassadors and potential members of the national team.

In a note given to the newspaper El Salvador, the Minister of Tourism, Morena Valdéz, said: “For the first time, ALAS has chosen El Salvador to hold a surf camp, but at the same time, a talent hunt will be held for young surfers from the west, east and central part of the country. The idea is to discover new talents to represent our world-class waves.”

Sierralta explained that the 15 chosen will take part in a camp on the Costa del Sol. They will work on finer details such as competition technique and tactics, physical and nutritional preparation and psychological advice.

This project, Sierralta said, is an initiative of Surf City but will be carried out in conjunction with the Salvadoran surfing federation, the Salvadoran sports institute and the country's Olympic committee.

“It is an honor for me to collaborate with Surf City in the search for talented kids in a very special country for ALAS because the original idea of our foundation was born in El Salvador in 1998. These training sessions and the subsequent selection will serve to work with these kids in the short and medium term so that they can become athletes on the ALAS Pro Tour circuit. It will be great to share the experiences of our ALAS champions Martín Passeri and Miguel Tudela.”

The team will visit many of the best-known surfing beaches in El Salvador, from Mizata to Oriente Salvaje.
