There will be an ISA SUP World Championship in 2019 and it will be in El Salvador

It was also confirmed that the final stage of the ALAS circuit will also take place in the Central American country.

The 2019 edition of the International Surfing Association's World SUP and Paddleboard Championship will take place in November in El Salvador, a source close to the event's organization told DUKE.

The tournament is confirmed for that month, the source said, as is the final stage of the Latin American circuit, which will be a six-star tournament between November 13 and 16.

The two events are part of a project to encourage surfer tourism called surf city that the young president of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, wants to implement in the country.

For the ISA, making the SUP tournament a reality is a godsend, as it is in the midst of a fight over the discipline's oversight with the International Canoe Federation and the fact that the World Championships were not taking place this year (and the canoe championship was being organised). It was considered by media analysts as a bad sign for the surf association..

The ISA World SUP and Paddleboard Championship has been held for seven consecutive editions, two in Peru, one each in Nicaragua, Mexico, Fiji, Denmark and China.

On the other hand, the confirmation of the closing of the six-star ALAS tour stage, together with Puerto Escondido, leaves a four-stage circuit with a strong closing for 2019.

An official announcement has not yet been made by either the ISA or the authorities of the government of El Salvador, the main sponsor of both tournaments.
