There will be no Puerto Challenge but there will be a Puerto Cup

A few days after it was made official that the WSL would not hold an event in Zicatela, the independent version of the event was presented

Just days after the WSL made it official that it would not include Puerto Escondido in its world big wave tour, the Puerto Escondido Cup, a big wave event that will take place with the largest swell in the month of June, was presented.

According to what was reported on the official website of the tournament, surfopenleague.com, 15 will be allocated.000 dollars in prizes and 2000 extra to reward the best tube of the championship, this award will be in honor of the legendary wave surfer, Oscar Moncada who tragically died in a car accident.

This event followed the same fate as all the “challenges” held around the world, in Pico Alto, Punta de Lobos, Punta Galea, which the WSL chose not to hold any more; they returned to their origins of being independent events or were reinvented as is the case of the Puerto Cup.

There are 24 guests, including seven Mexicans and a solid list of international guests.

Puerto Escondido will not be part of the world tour but will have its own international tournament, which could take place on the 11th of this month. All photos: WSL
