There will be no Punta Galea Challenge this season
He is resting this season to change his leadership and return renewed, reported the organization
The classic Basque big wave event, the Punta Galea Challenge, will not be held this season for organizational reasons, they themselves announced in a press release.
“A new stage has begun within the organisation of the event. A change in management due to a generational change and a more ambitious commitment to a crucial event in the Basque sporting agenda are the reasons for the break, at least in view of the holding of the championship,” they wrote.
“Over the next few months, we will work towards the new stage, training the new, young and experienced team, which will continue to look after the local and international surfing community, as well as the always outstanding presentation card of the famous Getxo wave,” they added.
The event has been running for 18 years; it has not been held every season because the surf conditions must be great.
Several of the best surfers on the planet have passed through it, especially on the occasions when it was part of the world big wave circuit.
