There will be no Roxy Pro Gold Coast in 2019, it will be Boost Mobile Pro
The telecommunications company has signed a sponsorship deal with the WSL for the first stage of the year
After several years, the top division of the women's world circuit will no longer be sponsored by Quiksilver's sister brand, Roxy, but by the telephone company Boost Mobile, the WSL reported in a press release published on its website. place Yesterday.
The event will take place from April 3-13 on the Gold Coast, Australia and WSL CEO Sophie Goldschmidt said: “We are so happy that Boost Mobile has come on board to support us in the opening season and are excited that they are partnering with us to host one of the most iconic and historic competitions in surfing.”
Boost Mobile General Manager Jason Haynes said: “We look forward to supporting this historic event, while giving our customers and fans an incredible experience and access to the world’s best surfers as they compete to become WSL champions.”
The exact reason why Boardriders (parent company of Quik and Roxy) will no longer sponsor the tournament is not known. It is presumed to be due to the deep restructuring and change of owners that it has undergone over the last few years that led to several cuts.
The men's event will continue to be Quik Pro.
