“The decision to cancel was made with great care, with the safety of fans, athletes, staff and the local community as the main priority,” the statement said.
The classic Huntington Beach, California tournament, the men's and women's QS 10.000 US Open, has been cancelled for the 2020 season due to the persistence of the Covid-19 pandemic, the WSL reported today, assuring that it will return in 2021.
“The decision to cancel was made with great care, with the safety of fans, athletes, staff and the local community as the main priority,” said the statement about the championship scheduled for August 3-9.
There is a commitment to hold the event again in 2021 if conditions are met.
“We look forward to bringing the evolution of this event in 2021,” he said. Carly Gomez, VP of Marketing, Americas at Vans.
“Given the scale of the event, we don’t see a way to do it this year without sacrificing what’s so special about it,” said Jennifer Lau, vice president of action sports for IMG, the company that owns the rights to the event.
