These are the teams that qualified for Lima 2019

The unofficial list of the historic 88 who will be at the debut of surfing in the second largest multi-sport tournament on the planet

Qualification for Lima 2019 brought the ISA, PASA, national federations and the entire surfing community a new way of dealing with the championships, as they now have consequences for Pan American and Olympic qualifications in which much is at stake.

The classification criteria, as has been seen in recent times, have shown that they can be interpreted in different ways and end up leading to different athletes from different countries.

This is not a minor issue and for this reason, the ISA itself announced that it will be responsible for announcing who will be officially classified and asked PASA not to do so.

Endless discussions have taken place, hundreds of consultations were made by DUKE to the authorities of the two organizations mentioned and as of today, with all but two qualifying tournaments having been held (the ISA World Longboard Championship – if it is held – and the APP World Tour still to be completed), we have arrived at a list of qualified athletes created by DUKE.

This is not official and shows different interpretations of the criteria published in Panam Sports and possible forms of resolution.

Another point that seems relevant to highlight is that the scores by country were determined by the technical direction of PASA without differentiating the exact result of each athlete, that is: There are four tied fifths, four ninths, etc.

The following are classified in this first interpretation:

Open ladies (16 places)

-Santiago Muñiz (Muñiz had qualified for the ISA World Championships as a world champion, and as his country finished in the top 2 by country category in the Open, our calculation is that this is where he places his classification, giving up one more place in the WSG. He gives way to Canadian Peter Devries and, very interestingly, almost gives way to Tomás Tudela (which would take away Alonso Correa) who was the worst fourth in that round 8 of the repechage in Japan and the Canadian was the best.
