These are the series of the last QS 10.000 of the year
This is how Costa Rican Carlos Muñoz is doing, he is very close to being the first Hispanic American man in history to qualify for the CT
The WSL has released the series for the Vans World Cup of Surfing, which begins its waiting period today, Monday, on the voluminous right-handers of Sunset Beach, Oahu, Hawaii.
Costa Rican Carlos Muñoz, who is very close to becoming the first Hispanic-American man in history to make it into the CT, will start seeded in the round of 96 in series 7 alongside Japanese Hiroto Ohhara and awaiting rivals between the winner of series 7, who has Charly Quivront, Evan Valiere and Makua Rothman and whoever is placed second in series 8 who will face Cooper Chapman, Cole Houshmand, Jackson Butler and Gavin Gillette.
If he advances first, Muñoz will face Michael Rodrigues and Yago Dora and the second in heat 8 and if he advances second he will face Gabriel Medina and the Vans wildcard, Kyus King and the first in heat 8.
According to DUKE's calculations, if he reaches the quarter-finals and repeats the result he obtained in Haleiwa, finishing 13th, he would reach 17.300 points, which would not guarantee him a place in the CT but would give him the chance to dream. If he places third in the quarter-finals, that is, if he finishes ninth, he would get 200 more points, reaching 17.500.
The leap would come by qualifying for the semi-finals and earning at least 5.100 points, which would leave him with 18800 points that would practically guarantee him a place in the elite.
Other scaled competitors are:
Aritz Aranburu in the round of 128 goes against O'Neill Massin, Nicholas Squires and Ulu Napeahi
Miguel Tudela in the round of 128 goes against Tanner Gudauskas, Finn McGill and Logan Bediamol
Vicente Romero in the round of 128 faces Sheldon Simkus, Tristan Gilbaud and Kala Willard
Alonso Correa is in the round of 96 against Matt Banting, the winner of heat 10 and second in heat 9.
Correa has a mathematical chance of entering the CT only if he wins the championship, he has 9160 points, he discards 900 so he can reach 18.260 and if the results go his way depending on the rest, the chance is there.
Joaquín del Castillo is on the waiting list in second place and Leandro Usuna in fifth.
Another new feature is that John John Florence does not appear in the series as announced by the WSL.
