Alan Cleland was voted the best male surfer of the year by 22 of the best in Latin America who participated in this year's poll. The Mexican beat Peru's Alonso Correa by one vote, seven to six.

Both of them deserved to fight for the title this year, as Cleland became the first Mexican to win the US Open and Correa placed fourth at the Olympic Games.

On the women's side, without such conclusive results at a global level, things were much more contested and ended with the talented Peruvian Sol Aguirre as the winner with four votes. In second place were five surfers with two votes each.

There were several big wins in many categories, such as big waves won by Joaquín del Castillo and Domi Charrier, or best youth won by Thiago Passeri and Catalina Zariquiey, all of them with a considerable difference over the second place.

The same happened for best female longboarder (Mafer Reyes), best federation (FENTA), best coach (Martín Passeri), best judge (Flavio Solari) and best shaper (Darío Milano).

Among the contested categories, Julián Schweizer won the longboard category by one vote against Piccolo Clemente, and Sol Aguirre won the tube category by the same margin against Brisa Hennessy; in this category, Alonso Correa and Alan Cleland tied six to six.

There were several other categories that were contested, and several others that ended in a tie for first place.

The following 22 surfers voted: Marcela Machado, Cristobal De Co, Thiago Passeri Pezzati, Agustin Cedeno, Julian Schweizer, Lucca Mesinas, Lucia Cosoleto, Franco Radziunas, Summer Sivori, Sol Aguirre, Martin Passeri, Catalina Zariquiey, Darshan Antequera, Isidora Bulto, Nacho Pignataro, Lele Usuna, Tomas Castillo, Juan Garcia Mata, Simon Salazar, Camila Sanday, Mariano Maugere and Andres Fernandez.

Those categories that do not add up to 22 among all those voted is because the difference was filled with blank votes.
