A new edition of the Punta Galea Challenge was announced

This Friday the waiting period opens and runs until March 31. Natxo, Twiggy and Nic Lamb are some of the guests

The only big wave paddle championship in Europe, the Punta Galen Challenge, was officially announced this Tuesday at a press conference yesterday in Getxo.

With a waiting period running from this Friday, November 1st, to October 31st, the XNUMXth edition will take place when a large, perfect swell enters the Galea.

Some of the confirmed guests mentioned by the organization and reported by local media are Twiggy Baker, Nic Lamb and Natxo González.

“This year there have been changes in the world circuit of these events, in fact there will only be one scoring tournament in Hawaii and then another in Nazaré (Portugal), which will be under the modality of tow-in, that is, towed by a jet ski,” said Javier Amezaga, organizer of the tournament, as reported by Dela.eus. With the cancellation of La Vaca Gigante, Galen's tournament remains the only big wave tournament of the season.

Another of the conference participants, 20-year-old Ibon López, said that he has “a hunch that this year La Galea is going to be really big.” “(Punta Galea) is different from any type of big wave I have ever tried because it breaks anywhere in the bay. Unlike other big waves, at La Galea you never know where the wave is going to fall. In addition, it is a very long and fun right to do a championship like this,” explained the young talent, also reported by the local site Dela.eus.

There will be 24 surfers competing and alerts will be issued 72 hours in advance so that everyone can travel to the tournament.
