They gave the green light for Eddie
This Sunday, December 22, the finest history of big wave surfing will be written again (if the bay allows it)
The event in memory of the legendary Eddie Aikau, one of the most prestigious surfing events on the planet, will be held this Sunday, December 22, the organizers assured on social media.
Surfline said the storm that will generate the waves will be close and that “it seems that it will achieve its objective” by starting slowly in the morning and getting bigger in the afternoon for the last series of the day.
The proximity of the storm, Surfline adds, makes the forecast change a lot, but if the direction improves, things can get really juicy.
However, they clarify, in the most conservative scenario there will still be waves of 18 to 20 feet. “That’s probably enough to get it done,” said Surfline’s Wallis.
“The bay will make the call,” said Liam McNamara, event director, explaining that the tournament is in the green but also justifying that it is in light of the conditions on the day that the decision is made.
McNamara called on all surfers to be in Hawaii.
