The Punta Galea Challenge was given the green light

With a forecast that promises the event will take place on Monday, December 16


The organisers of the Punta Galea Challenge, a classic big wave tournament that takes place on the giant right-hander in the town of Getxo, have given the green light for the 2019-2020 edition of the championship to take place.

On December 16th the sea will be gigantic in the Basque Country and as previously announced, with the yellow light, ““Conditions promise to be truly exceptional.”

The last edition of the event, last year, which also took place in December, on the 10th, was won by the Frenchman Pierre Rollet and had Aritz Aranburu as vice-president.

According to the press release sent by the organization, 24 surfers will participate, 12 Basques and 12 internationals.

Some of those who will be present are: Nic Lamb, Pierre Rollet, Jaimie Mitchell, Lucas Chianca, Alex Botello and Nic Von Rupp in the international group and Aritxa Saratxaga or Zuku, Adrián Fernández de Valderrama, Ibon Lopez, Javier Horn and Natxo Fernandez, Indar Unanue, Axi Muniain, Iker Muñoz and Aritz Aranburu himself.

Local star Natxo González did not attend Jaws because he is suffering from pneumonia, but he considered the possibility of being part of the event that is taking place at his home.
