They want Mar del Plata to join the World Network of Surfing Cities

The idea is to generate a structure of collaboration between urban centers where there is a development strategy not only for sports, but also for an activity that generates social and economic wealth.

The president of Biologia Club and organizer of the QS classic in La Feliz, Sebastian Loustau, sent a request to the Municipality of Mar del Plata for the city to be integrated into the world network of surf cities World Surf Cities Network (WSCN), in English, reported a press release sent by the club.

Arica and Viña del Mar (Chile), Durban (South Africa), Ericeira and Viana Do Castelo (Portugal), Gold Coast (Australia), Huanchaco and Miraflores (Peru), Lacanau (France), Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Canary Islands), Montañita and Salinas (Ecuador), New Plymouth (New Zealand), San Sebastián (Basque Country) and Santos (Brazil) are already part of it and the idea is to generate a structure of collaboration between urban centres where there is a development strategy not only for sports, but also for an activity that generates social and economic wealth.

"We understand that this is an opportunity for the city to grow internationally, given the exchange of experiences and information about this sport with other cities around the world. In this sense, on behalf of the city we commit to receive the visit of the Evaluation Committee to consider Mar del Plata as a candidate city and to be present at the Annual General Assembly," Loustau explained in the request.

The same, states the statement, has the approval and support of institutions such as the World Surf League of Latin America, the Argentine Surf Association, Surfrider Foundation Argentina and the Municipality of General Pueyrredon.

So far, the WSCN has cities such as, where knowledge is shared and initiatives around this activity are collaborated on.
