Mexico will be at the ISA World Surfing Games taking place in Margara, Puerto Rico between February 24 and March 3, with a powerful team that includes the current world champion, Alan Cleland.
Mexicans form like this:
Open men
Alan Cleland
Sebastian Williams
Jhony Corzo
Open ladies
Shelby Detmers
Maya Mateja
Sydney Ott
With Alan Cleland's victory last year in El Salvador, the Mexicans finished the event in a very good seventh place and will therefore be the seed in Puerto Rico.
With Alan Cleland already qualified for Paris, Mexico can still qualify three more people and even five if they win the men's and women's team competitions.
One of the big new additions to the squad is the presence of the talented young Maya Mateja, raised in New Zealand and now based in Mexico, who has shown very good surfing in regional Latin American events.
The Puerto Rico event awards five Olympic slots for men and seven for women.
