Fernanda Barbot, Julián Schweizer and Nacho Pignataro will be the three Uruguayan members of the International Surfing Association longboard world championship to be held in Biarritz, France between May 26 and June 2.

With an almost identical team, the Uruguayans placed 18th in the last World Cup held in China in 2018 (Schweizer and Pignataro were present). In the previous one, held in Peru in 2013, the Uruguayans placed 13th.

The only competitor who participated in all three tournaments was Julián Schweizer (in 2013 he participated as a junior and in 2018 he was eighth in the professional category). Pignataro, meanwhile, placed 25th in last year's tournament. Barbot, a Uruguayan based in Byron Bay, Australia, is the new addition to the Uruguayan team.

"I'm very happy to be able to represent Uruguay for the third time in an ISA World Championship. Expectations are high, we're going with an almost complete team. It's a shame we couldn't get the whole team together, but on the other hand I'm happy that we added a new member to the team compared to last year. I'm going to leave everything in the water to be able to improve my eighth place and leave Uruguay at the top," Julián Schweizer, who is coming off a podium finish at the LQS in Rio de Janeiro, told DUKE.

Pignataro is currently preparing for tournaments in different parts of the world. He participated in the Mexilog Fest and this weekend he placed fifth in the Ferrolog, in Galicia.
