Tomorrow are the trials of the CT of Tahiti and Aritz Aranburu goes in the first series
The Zaratuz native, defending champion of the previous event, will face three locals in round 1
The Tahitian surfing federation has announced the series for the trials of one of the best CTs of the year, the Tahiti Pro Teahupoo ex Billabong Pro Tahiti. The Basque Aritz Aranburu will be in the first series of the day and will face three locals: Tereva David, Mihimana Braye and Jocelyn Polou.
Aranburu was the champion of this tournament last year and for this reason he managed to get a taste of the CT of which he was a part in 2008, 2009 and 2014.
“We’re expecting solid conditions at trials tomorrow,” Aritz told DUKE. “I’m really looking forward to surfing Teahupoo again. It’s magical! We’re in for a day of barrels and I couldn’t ask for more.”

To qualify for the main event, the Basque will have to win or place second, provided that the champion is a local. The rule is that at least one local has to qualify for the main event. Thus, if he places second and the first is a foreigner, the first Tahitian in order will enter the event.
The series waiting for wildcards are the following:
5: Julian Wilson vs Yago Dora vs Wildcard
6: Filipe Toledo vs Connor O'Leary vs Wildcard
Everyone says the waves are going to be solid, which could benefit the Basque team. The event will be streamed live here.
After losing by one in his first set at the US Open, Aritz traveled to Tahiti and, as he shared in his stories, he got a couple of bombs.
