The cream of Chilean big wave surfing was reunited at its temple, Punta de Lobos yesterday and the day before yesterday, in a swell that came in at two in the afternoon and increased in size until 11 in the morning on Thursday.

Ramón Navarro, Diego Medina, Cristian Merello, Pato Mekis, Pollo Vargas, Piojo Navarro, Diego Fabres, Emilio García de la Huerta, among others, found an organized afternoon, with impressive lights and light wind on Wednesday and a more violent morning on Thursday with bigger waves and heavier conditions.

One of the authors of the photos and videos in this article, Rodrigo Farías Moreno, highlighted how the boys went into the water in the old-fashioned way, with the patience and adrenaline of entering through the hills.

On Wednesday afternoon, Emilio García de la Huerta surfed the best wave of the swell, getting a double tube that makes him the favorite for the 2018 edition of La Ola de Chile.

The bank was sandblasted and launched some very hollow trains, Ramón, for example, with an 8, got a good one. Merello got some jewels that created an impressive light show.

The next day, Thursday, the sea was huge but it didn't last long. Diego Medina and Cristian Merello got the biggest ones down. The wind came early and slowed down the pumps but they broke well all day.

It was a sea with a taste of spring, a taste of farewell to winter. Asked if this seemed like the case to photographer Farías Moreno, he replied: “I hope not.”

"There's nothing better than when waves come into our home. Perfect conditions in our beloved Punta de Lobos with good friends," wrote Ramón Navarro on his social networks. On Wednesday, the local surfer got some good waves. He also tried an 8'6 and this is how he got on (see video below). Photo: Rodrigo Farías Moreno

Cristian Merello received an excellent welcome. The venue went from the bombs of Mexico to those of his home. "What a welcome in Chile, good food for the soul, a very nice afternoon," wrote the local about this session on his social networks. Photo: Oscar Fredes
