Tyler Newton won the Backdoor Shootout
With 31,83 out of 36 possible points, the Kauai native won the prestigious tournament, which once again had great hits.
Kauai local Tyler Newton took down the 2019 edition of the Backdoor Shootout which concluded after five days of solid barrels at the queen of waves, Banzai Pipeline.
Newton surfed three bombs in these rounds, adding 31,83 of 36 possible points (11,5+10,5+9,83), all of them among the top 10 of the tournament.
This was the most important victory of Tyler Newton's life, who at the beginning of his career was presented as a great promise (surfing one of the best waves in the history of the Shootout - see video -), but who was missing for several years due to personal problems, was arrested, lost his sponsor but was able to return two years ago.
Jamie O'Brien followed closely behind, as did Japan's Keito Matsuoka, who surfed the best wave of the tournament, but they still lacked Newton's consistency.
This is how the final positions were:

Meanwhile, by teams, the result was as follows:
1 – Weed Maps
2 – North Shore Surf Shop
3 – Quiksilver
4 – DaHui Wax
5 – Volcom
6 – Team Japan
7 – CBD MD
8 – Hui O He'e Nalu
