Tyler Wright dropped out of the Surf Ranch Pro

The Australian says she is still sick from a flu she contracted two months ago in South Africa

Reigning world champion Tyler Wright of Australia has pulled out of the eighth stage of the tour, the Surf Ranch Pro, because she said in an Instagram post that she is still sick with a bad flu that she contracted while on the JBay stage two months ago.

“I’m sad to miss another event, unfortunately due to the ongoing illness I’m going to have to miss the Surf Ranch Pro, good luck to everyone,” Tyler wrote on Instagram.

The WSL also reported this and noted that her replacement will be Macy Callaghan, the first to not qualify for the QS last year.

Mikey guest
Tyler's brother, Mikey Wright, will be in Lemoore because he received his seventh wildcard of the year and could get him into the CT through invitations.

Since John John and Caio Ibelli will not be there, it was announced that Wiggolly Dantas and Miguel Pupo, the first to be left out of last year's CT, will be at the event.

Event format
During the qualifying process, the best 36 men and 18 women in the world will combine their best right and best left. The best eight men and four women will surf for the historic title in the grand finals on Sunday.

Each surfer will have six opportunities, three lefts and three rights, and each surfer's score will be made up of his best left and his best right. Then, in the finals, the 12 qualified surfers (eight men and four women) will surf six waves each again and the sum of their best left and right will determine the champion.

The Surf Ranch Pro will take place this Friday through Sunday at the World Surf League's wave pool, the Surf Ranch, located in Lemoore, California, 200 kilometers from the ocean.
