Tyler Wright wins historic women's debut at the Pipe Masters
Today in Pipe a new chapter was written in the book of surfing history
Australia's Tyler Wright won the historic women's debut at the Pipe Masters and did so by maneuvering through a heat with inconsistent waves. Carissa Moore, who seemed indestructible, couldn't find the waves and placed second.
In the finals, everything went slowly, Wright got tired and decided to look for walls to maneuver. Carissa kept looking for tubes and it didn't go well for her.
With a few minutes left, Moore found the tube, a section towards Pipe. Wright went for his defense and did two maneuvers, nothing special, but the judges gave him three points, which were enough to win.
It was a historic debut for a CT at Pipe for the ladies. The bombs went in and there were some tough moments. Tatiana Weston sent several bombs into Pipe, beating Sage Erickson in a series that was more about maneuvers.
Then Sally Fitzgibbons had nothing to do with Wright and Carissa had everything perfect against Weston Webb.
In the grand finale, everything was slow. Moore had the great intention of surfing Pipe and Wright had the intention of winning; the Australian went to compete and this was better than trying to surf better.
