USA Surfing was once again recognized as the governing body of surfing in its country

This was determined by the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee yesterday, Wednesday.

The United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) has once again recognized USA Surfing as the governing body for surfing in that country, according to several media outlets and the institution itself.

"The new leadership and new approach of USA Surfing have made this moment possible," said USOPC President Gene Sykes, as quoted by ESPN.

They emphasized that after stepping aside from the sports government and being "attacked" by the ski federation that wanted to take over oversight, USA Surfing achieved financial stability that gives authorities confidence in the lead-up to Los Angeles 2028.

“Receiving official certification as the national governing body is a great honor and an enormous responsibility. This milestone is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our athletes, staff, board of directors, and the entire surfing community. Our commitment to this great sport is stronger than ever. In partnership with the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC), we look forward to delivering the Olympic legacy that surfers, coastal communities, and everyone who supported this process deserve,” Rob Pendergist, president of the USA Surfing board of directors, told The Inertia.
