The Ukrainian Surfing Federation (USF) has become the 109th member of the International Surfing Association, the world body announced in a press release yesterday.

“USF has established a set of goals to develop the sport and culture of surfing and StandUp Paddle,” the statement said. “Through the organization of competitions, the implementation of educational programs and the general promotion of the sport, particularly among the country’s youth,” it added.

The federation also confirmed that it will be present at the World Cup in El Salvador, which will take place between May 29 and June 6.

In Ukraine, surfing is popular in the Black Sea, and other sports are also practiced in the country's rivers and lakes.

“We are very happy to become part of the ISA family. This is another important step on our path to developing surfing in Ukraine, not only as a cultural movement of like-minded people who find themselves in unity with the ocean, but also as an Olympic sport with a rich history,” said the ISA President.

President of the Surfing Federation of Ukraine Vasiliy Kordysh.

On the other hand, the ISA reported that from now on CSG will now manage the sport of surfing as the official National Federation recognized by the ISA in Algeria and they also reported their intentions to send a team from their country to El Salvador.

“Surfing’s Olympic dream is alive and well. Now, surfers from places like Ukraine and Algeria, who never imagined they would have the chance to compete on the world’s biggest sporting stage, have the opportunity to represent their nation and culture among the world’s best national surfing teams,” said ISA President Fernando Aguerre.
