The World Surf League tour will return to Uruguay after more than 24 years, the organization has just confirmed in a statement sent to its competitors, coaches and friends to which DUKE was able to access.
The first stage of the WSL regional tour will take place on Bikini Wave from February 21 to 25. At the end of the season, the South American competition will decide who will qualify for the top division of world longboarding.
The last time the world tour had come to Uruguay was in January 1999 in Montoya, a QS that was won by the Brazilian Otavio Lima.
“Longboard competitors also start the year with good news, which is the confirmation of the event,” says the statement, adding that it will have a larger prize pool than other Longboard QSs, distributing 10.000 dollars.
Several of the best longboarders in South America are expected to be present, with a strong emphasis on Brazilians, Argentines, Chileans and Peruvians, and local Uruguayans.
